Myself I can't Pick Just One
« on: April 10, 2013, 02:12:32 PM »

That's great, asking you which specific musician was the one that influenced you most, and I cannot pick just one myself, lol.  There were several sounds/musicians that I could not get enough of as I was growing up:

Maynard Ferguson
Yeah, maybe he came across as a little hollywood, but I just loved his sound.  He had a great comeback story, and his group was really tight, whether it was his trumpets hitting those high notes or the sax solos that just kept pushing the beat forward.  In high school, I saw him perform at a jazz festival/competition, it was just amazing, and I was hooked.

Charlie Parker
Okay, is that another easy out, or what?  But I spent a lot of hours in the practice room trying to keep up with that sound.

Woody Herman
I guess sometimes I just like the sound of a thundering herd.  What can I say?  Woody Herman's 'Jazzman' is still the best rendition of that song I have ever heard.
